| | Caring For Mental Wellbeing Learning to care for mental wellbeing requires the same attention as learning to care for physical health.
Youth need to learn how to care for their mental wellbeing, just as we teach them to care for their physical needs. We all have mental health needs that change as we grow and develop. As parents most of us did not learn how to care for our mental health so it is hard for us to teach this to our children.
Some people are born with mental health problems; others develop them later in life. It is important to know that mental or emotional problems can develop at any age. Difficult events can make mental health problems worse. Other, beneficial events can help a person better deal with their problems. Each child is uniquely affected by the stresses and emotional supports in their life, and some will develop mental health problems. Getting help early, when a problem is first identified, is an effective way to prevent problems from getting worse. Change and stress are normal parts of life. Teaching youth to effectively cope with upsetting change and stress helps them to be healthier and happier.
