CHEMICAL HEALTH PROGRAMS
At the YSB, we are committed to improving young lives. Our Chemical Health work focuses on prevention and some intervention strategies that are effective with young people and supplement the more traditional treatment programs.
Youth use and abuse of chemical substances is a major concern in many communities across the east metro area. Alcohol and other drug use are interfering with school attendance and academic success. Recent studies around adolescent brain development also indicate that youth consumption and use can permanently impair brain development related to moral reasoning and decision-making.
Chemical use is often associated with behavioral problems, mental health issues and physical wellbeing. Too often, the chemical masks other concerns and makes it more difficult to resolve the concurrent issues.
National statistics show high levels of dangerous binge drinking among area high school students. Impaired judgment is negatively impacting decision-making and contributing to debilitating injuries and even deaths.
