Community Justice Program Spring/Fall/Summer Intern

Paul Weiler, Executive Director and Community Justice Program Coordinator

Assignment Objective:

 

This internship opportunity is offered by the Youth Service Bureau, which is a community-based non-profit whose main mission is to provide education and intervention to keep youth out of the juvenile justice system. This intern will assist the Community Justice Program in service delivery to youth and families that are referred by court, schools, and local law enforcement.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in the monitoring of community work service for juvenile on probation
  • Report community work service progress to immediate supervisor and probation officers
  • Database entry of case management
  • Participate in restorative justice conferencing
  • Clerical duties
  • Assist with awareness classes
  • Perform community work service initial intakes
  • Criminal justice research as assigned by supervisor
  • Update community  lists
  •  Assist in new program development as needed

Requirements:

 

  • Experience working with youth
  • At least two years of coursework in the Social Sciences
  • Knowledge of restorative justice principles
  • Interest in juvenile justice issues
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Driver's license and access to motor vehicle
  • Must be available daytime hours and some weekday evenings
  • Successful criminal background check

Benefits of this Position:

 

Due to our large service area, the intern will gain knowledge of the juvenile justice systems in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. One will also learn how restorative justice efforts are used as intervention tools in juvenile issues.

 

Commitment Req'd:

 

Minimum 200 hours; 16 - 20 hours per week (can be flexible)
