Counseling: What is it? Short term, action oriented teamwork -- to make practical changes...
Program Description Counseling is a short term, action-oriented intervention, focusing on a problem or issue. During a series of meetings the trained and qualified therapist helps youth and family members examine perceptions and feelings, as they develop practical strategies to handle issues and problems. It is a learning process and a growth experience for everyone involved.
Conversation, play and art help young clients learn about themselves and their families. With the counselor's help, this learning can form the basis for resolving conflicts or making life more manageable.
Counseling is actually teamwork -- to make changes. It requires hard work, both during sessions and during everyday life outside the sessions. As youth and their families discover the power of making personal changes in their own lives, they also gain a new understanding of themselves.
