Fire Awareness Program (FAP)
Exposes the dangers of fire and fireworks

FAP is a one-evening course requiring parental participation.  Youth are responsible for a $30.00 fee.

Cottage Grove Firefighter Kevin Zittel works with YSB to help youth understand the consequences of using matches, and chemicals without adults present and not following legal guidelines on fireworks.

Thank you Kevin and Cottage Grove Public Safety for your efforts to keep our youth safe!

Playing with fire is dangerous and costly.  A juvenile set-structure fire costs communities over $20,000 in damages on average.  Unfortunately 55% of arson arrested are juveniles.  FAP is designed to help youth make better decisions about fire without facing the consequences of a major arson incident.

FAP covers
  • Dangers of playing with matches, lighters, and chemicals
  • Fireworks and firework safety
  • Consequences of fire; including the legal and personal costs
  • Fire Safety is emphasized
